Description:
A rather compact archetypal crow with relatively flat crown running onto slightly arched culmen. From Large-billed Crow by smaller bill with straighter culmen, and flatter forehead and crown. Wing-tips almost reach tail-tip at rest (noticeably shorter than tail in Large-billed).
Distribution:
Widespread resident all across Gilgit-Baltistan, except in Hunza and Nagar districts. Inhabits mixed farmland, gardens, forest clearings and plains, preferably with at least some scattered trees. Can reach up or 3600m in some areas.
Behavior:
Feeds almost entirely on ground, turning over dung or stones to get at insects and other invertebrates. Although not agile in the air, will pursue other birds to make them drop or regurgitate food items. Omnivorous, but chiefly a carnivorous scavenger. Diet consists basically of invertebrates, small mammals, as well as carrion; in addition, small amounts of grain and weed seeds taken.
